Physical Spaces Design for Grady Hospital
#Way-finding system #Experience design-Development package
Grady Memorial Hospital, one of the largest public hospitals in the U.S. and a key Level I trauma center in Atlanta, serves a diverse and high-traffic patient population. During field research, it became clear that Grady’s current wayfinding system is inconsistent, fragmented in style, and difficult to navigate—leading to delays and frustration for patients and visitors.
This project proposes redesigning the hospital’s physical wayfinding system to improve clarity, accessibility, and user experience. Through observational studies, user journey mapping, and environmental analysis, the goal is to create a cohesive and intuitive signage system that aligns with Grady’s commitment to compassionate and equitable care.

The wall design is a tribute to the history and cultural significance of the hospital and includes a series of messages and images depicting the hospital's past, present, and future. This will allow hospital staff and community members to work closely together to ensure that the design reflects the hospital's values and mission. It serves as a reminder of the hospital's commitment to providing quality care to all community members and is a testament to the enduring spirit of compassion and care that
has guided the hospital for more than a century.

In environments as serious and emotionally intense as hospitals, emotional well-being is often overlooked. This project explores how design can bring warmth, connection, and comfort to such a space through a public installation.
